ABEC stands for Annular Bearing Engineer Committee. This is a committee that determines standards for the Anti-Friction Bearing Manufacturers Association (AFBMA).
The scale was developed to classify different accuracy and tolerance ranges for bearings in general, not just roller skating bearings. The ABEC rating has nothing to do with bearing quality.
A higher ABEC rating will not make you go faster but it will give you more roll out. This means that they will spin longer after you have stopped pushing. How fast you go is up to you and your skating ability. |
